Power Standards and Benchmarks Grade 1 The needs of the 21st century learners, our students, is at the core of what we do. In preparing them for the 21st century, it is imperative that higher-order thinking skills be embedded in all curricula and that students are asked to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways. The curriculum development cycle involves discussion about "preparing students for their future rather than our past."

Common Core State Standards Website
Grade-level flyers have been updated to reflect power standards and benchmarks (Common Core State Standards or CCSS) for each grade level in reading/language arts, math, science, and social studies. We are currently in a transition toward the CCSS in Math and Language Arts. These standards have been adopted by 43 other states and are informed by the highest state standards across the country.
Power standards are the “big ideas” that students should possess at the end of each grade level or course. Benchmarks are the intermediate concepts and skills that help develop the power standards.
